Best eSIM for Bali

A practical Bali eSIM guide for Denpasar, Canggu, Ubud, Uluwatu, Nusa Penida, and remote work, including what to check before buying.

Short answer

The best eSIM for Bali is an Indonesia plan with enough data for maps, ride-hailing, messaging, and hotspot, ideally valid for the full stay. Bali is easy in the main tourist areas, but signal can vary sharply between Canggu, Ubud, Uluwatu, Nusa Penida, and mountain roads.

If live Indonesia plans are available in our catalog, they will appear here:

What matters for Bali

Bali is not one uniform coverage zone. The best plan depends on where you will spend time:

  • Canggu, Seminyak, Kuta, Denpasar: easy coverage, heavy data usage.
  • Ubud: generally good, but villas outside town can be patchy.
  • Uluwatu: good near main roads and beaches, weaker around cliffs and tucked-away stays.
  • Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan: more variable; download offline maps.
  • North Bali and mountain areas: do not assume strong signal everywhere.

Because Bali travellers often rely on Grab/Gojek, WhatsApp, maps, translation, banking, and hotspot, a tiny data pack can disappear quickly.

Best Bali eSIM by trip type

Best for a short holiday

For 3-5 days in Seminyak, Canggu, Ubud, or Uluwatu, a 3-5 GB Indonesia eSIM is usually enough if your hotel Wi-Fi is decent. Buy more if you plan to upload video or use hotspot.

Best for two weeks in Bali

Choose 10 GB or more. Bali is deceptively data-heavy because travellers coordinate everything on the phone: scooter rides, villa check-ins, restaurant bookings, surf lessons, and maps.

Best for remote work

Buy a high-data plan and confirm hotspot support. Coworking spaces and villas usually have Wi-Fi, but backup mobile data is useful during outages. If calls matter, remember that most travel eSIMs are data-only; use WhatsApp, FaceTime, or Google Meet.

Best for Nusa Penida

Prioritize coverage and keep offline maps ready. Nusa Penida has beautiful roads, steep terrain, and inconsistent signal. Do not buy the smallest plan if you need navigation all day.

Indonesia eSIM or Asia regional eSIM?

If Bali is your only stop, buy an Indonesia-specific eSIM. It is usually better value than a regional Asia plan.

Choose an Asia regional eSIM if Bali is part of a wider route: Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, or Malaysia. Regional plans are convenient because you install once and keep the same data profile across borders, but they can cost more per GB.

How much data do you need in Bali?

Trip styleSuggested data
3-5 day resort stay3-5 GB
1 week mixed itinerary5-10 GB
2 weeks with scooters and day trips10 GB+
Remote work or hotspot15-20 GB or unlimited

If you post video, use hotspot, or navigate by scooter every day, move up one tier.

Our recommendation

For most Bali trips, pick a 10 GB Indonesia eSIM with hotspot support and install it before flying. If you are only staying in one resort for a long weekend, a smaller plan is fine. If you are working remotely or visiting Nusa Penida, buy more data and download offline maps before you leave Wi-Fi.
